- ½ tsp kosher salt
- 1 cup butter, room temp
- 1 cup brown sugar, packed
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- ¼ cup pure maple syrup
- 1 large egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
For the spiced maple butter…
- 1 tbsp butter
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tbsp pure maple syrup
- 2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 tsp ground ginger
- ¼ tsp ground nutmeg
- ⅛ tsp ground cloves
For the cinnamon butter…
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
For the maple icing…
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
- 3 tbsp pure maple syrup
- ¾ cup powdered sugar
Steps
Start with the cookie dough,
- Preheat the oven to 375°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients: flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
- Reserve one tablespoon of butter from the 1 cup and set it aside in a small bowl. Cream the remaining butter in a mixing bowl with the paddle attachment.
- Set aside one tablespoon of brown sugar with the tablespoon of butter. Add the rest of the brown sugar to the butter in the mixing bowl and beat until light and fluffy.
- Incorporate the granulated sugar into the butter-sugar mixture, beating for about two minutes on medium speed.
- Scrape down the sides of the bowl. Add the maple syrup, egg, and vanilla extract, beating well after each addition until thoroughly combined.
- Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture using a rubber spatula until no flour streaks remain.
Next the spiced maple butter,
- Mix the reserved tablespoon of butter and brown sugar in a small bowl. Add maple syrup, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and ground cloves. Mix well.
- Add small dollops of the spiced maple butter onto the dough, stirring just enough to create streaks of butter throughout. Avoid overmixing. Chill the dough in the fridge for 15 minutes.
Now the cinnamon sugar,
- Combine sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl.
- Roll the dough into 2-ounce balls, coat them in the sugar mixture, and place 6 dough balls on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them a few inches apart.
- Bake for a total of 12 minutes. After 6 minutes, remove the pan from the oven and gently tap it on a towel-covered surface a few times. Return it to the oven for 2 minutes. Repeat this tapping process twice more.
- Take the cookies out of the oven and let them cool on the baking sheet for 3-5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack.
Don’t forget the maple icing,
- Once the cookies have cooled, prepare the icing by combining all the listed ingredients. Transfer the icing to a piping bag and drizzle it over the cookies.
- Allow the icing to set for 10-15 minutes before serving and enjoy!
