Sunrise on The Reaping — New Hunger Games Book?!
There is going to be another Hunger Games book, real, or not real? REAL!!! Get ready for “Sunrise on The Reaping”!
As a freshman in high school, my mom told me about a ‘really good’ book she was reading. It was about a world where kids were selected to participate in an annual televised event, battle-royale style, to the death. I’m sure you know the book, Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. I read this book and was instantly obsessed! This trilogy was the spark for my love of post-apocalyptic literature. The final book was published in 2010.
Then in 2020 we were blessed to visit the world of Panem again with the prequel, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. This story is set 64 years before the events of the Hunger Games and details how Coriolanus Snow became the ruthless President we love to hate.
On June 6th, Suzanne Collins sent shock waves across the internet by announcing there was going to be ANOTHER Hunger Games book!
When can we get it?
Sunrise on the Reaping will be published on March, 18th, 2025! Collins wrote that this book was inspired by David Hume and his idea of implicit submission, the ease in which many are governed by the few. The story will take a deeper dive into the use of propaganda and how those in power control the narrative.
The story will center on the 50th Hunger Games (the second Quarter Quell), which resulted in one of District 12’s tributes, Haymitch Abernathy, crowned as winner.
What do we know about the Second Quarter Quell?
It was one of the deadliest games in Hunger Games history. The special stipulation for this game was that the Capitol would reap double the amount of children. This means that Haymitch’s game hosted 48 children… and he won.
My heart is already breaking and I haven’t even read the book. I know it will make me an emotional mess.
