Steps

  1. Brown the butter for the cookie dough in a small pan over medium heat. Stir occasionally until it turns golden brown and emits a nutty aroma. Transfer to a bowl and let it cool to room temperature.
  2. For the brownie base, melt together chocolate chips and butter in a small bowl. Microwave and stir the mixture in 30-second increments until smooth. Add cocoa powder to the chocolate mixture and mix until well combined.
  3. In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together eggs and sugar until light and fluffy. Pour the chocolate mixture into the egg mixture and fold until combined. Add flour and salt, mixing just until no flour streaks remain. Set aside brownie mixture and prepare the cookie dough.
  4. Thoroughly mix together the brown butter and sugars. Add vanilla extract and egg, mixing well. Add dry ingredients (flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt). Fold until a dough forms, then mix in chocolate chips.
  5. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a 9×9 pan with parchment paper.
  6. Pour half of the brownie mixture into the prepared baking pan, smoothing it into an even layer. Use 2/3 of the cookie dough to create a thin layer on top of the brownie layer.
  7. Pour the remaining brownie mixture on top, spreading it into an even layer. Break apart the remaining cookie dough and scatter it on top of the brookie to create a marbled effect.
  8. Bake for 40 minutes or until the edges have set (begin pulling apart from the sides of the pan) and the middle is soft.
  9. Allow the brookie to cool in the pan until it reaches room temperature. Enjoy!
