If you’re anything like me, you can’t get enough of epic tales, magical realms, and unforgettable characters. In this post, I’m sharing my top 5-star fantasy authors who never fail to whisk me away to another world. Ready to find your next favorite read? Let’s dive in!

Carissa Broadbent

If this woman writes it, I will read it! There is something about her writing and the way she tells a story that is just plain addicting! She brilliantly blends a captivating story with lovable characters and the perfect amount of romance. The Serpent and the Wings of Night has been one of my favorite reads this year! If you were a Twilight fan in your teens, you will love these darker, morally gray vampires!

Favorite books: The Serpent and the Wings of Night duology and the Daughter of No Worlds trilogy

V.B. Lacey

I randomly came across this author on instagram and was really interested to read her book when it was marketed as spice free. So many popular fantasy books rely on smut to sell, and I wanted to read something that was well written and an interesting story. I’m so grateful I gave this a shot because it was easily a five star read! For a book that is spice free, it sure did make my heart beat fast! The tension was heavy and the banter was perfect! I was really impressed with her debut duology!

Completed duology: Long Live and Forever Reign

Rebecca Ross

There is no word that describes Ross’s writing better than beautiful. Her words make you feel. She writes characters you will fall in love with and stories that will stay with you long after you finish reading! My favorite duology is Divine Rivals, but I also really enjoyed her adult Elements of Cadence duology. Start with Divine Rivals, it’s definitely her best!

YA: Divine Rivals & Ruthless Vows (Letters of Enchantment duology)
Adult: A River Enchanted & A Fire Endless (Elements of Cadence duology)

Kristen Ciccarelli

I loved every minute of reading The Heartless Hunter, and that didn’t end up being very long because I DEVOURED it. It’s physically impossible for me to read slowly if I’m loving a story, and I loved this! This is a story about a witch and a witch hunter and the tension in this book is unmatched.

The only downside to reading this book is it ends with a cliffhanger that destroyed me, and the next book isn’t going to be released until next year. I’m trying to convince myself that I can patiently wait that long…it’s not going well.

Crimson Moth Duology: Heartless Hunter & Rebel Witch (February 18, 2025)

Stephanie Garber

Once Upon a Broken Heart is probably her most popular trilogy, but I actually didn’t like it at all. I would have been obsessed with those books as a 14 year old, but as an adult, the books read very very young. However, there is another trilogy she wrote that takes place before the events in Once Upon a Broken Heart, and I absolutely devoured them. That trilogy is called Caraval! It’s still in the YA genre, but the writing and plot is better! It’s slightly Alice in Wonderland like where the blur between reality and the game is hard to discern; disorienting and utterly irresistible!

Completed trilogy: Caraval, Legendary, Finale
